Getting married

During the uncertain times of war when couples were separated, many wanted to cement their relationships through marriage. Over the years, the women have carefully preserved the mementoes and good luck charms seen in these pages from their special day.

"At the end of the war material was on coupons and my sister decided we'd buy this whole parachute and make things out of it. There were like army surplus shops where you could buy it. It were quite expensive at the time…And I decided I'd make like a nightie but then I'd decided I'd wear it as an underskirt under my wedding dress."
