For many of the families that first moved onto the estates in north Sheffield, the main breadwinner worked in the steel or engineering industries. The estates were designed as a dormitory suburb for these workers. Click on the images to enlarge. |
Dennis Mawson was a senior crucible furnace man at Daniel Doncasters in the 1930s. His job was to pull pots (crucibles) of molten steel out of the furnace which was below ground.
